METHOD AND LOCKING BODY FOR LOCKING CONTAINERS CARRIED ON BOARD
The present invention relates to a method for locking containers transported on board by means of corner pieces in the containers, whereby overlapping containers are locked by means of container locks which are attached to the corner pieces.
On a cargo ship, containers are carried in the hold under the cargo hatches and on deck over the cargo hatches in several rows side by side and several layers on top of each other. The deck has removable cargo hatches to close the hold below. Containers above the deck are carried over the hatch covers. In this application, consideration 15 is directed to, but not limited to, the transport of containers on a cargo ship deck.
Containers have corner pieces at all eight corners to lock them together. Typically, the two overlapping two containers are locked together by means of container locks mounted on the corner pieces of the container. Container locks are located between the corner pieces of two overlapping containers and lock into the holes on the horizontal surfaces of the corner pieces.
Known container locks are shown e.g. in EP 0776302 B1, DE 10200401 A1 and WO 8907079 A1.
Adjacent containers are usually not locked together. However, for special situations, there are devices for supporting adjacent containers. One possible solution is disclosed in EP 1194353 B1.
At sea, as the ship and the container stack on its deck tilt, the buckle locks and the container corners are subjected to high clamping and tensile forces. In order to increase the transport capacity of ships, the aim is to carry ever higher and heavier container stacks on the deck of ships. However, the strength of the strap locks is limited
20175943 prh 25 -10- 2017 linen. Typically, the maximum permissible traction force in straddle carriers is 250 kN. This limits the increase in container stacks while improving the efficiency of ships.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a method of locking containers to each other such that the locking is more resistant to the pulling force of the sea, whereby the number of containers carried on a cargo ship can be increased. The process according to the invention is characterized by what is defined in the independent claim 1. Preferred embodiments of the process are defined in the dependent claims 2 to 6.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a coupling member performing the method to15. The coupling member is characterized by what is defined in the independent claim 7. Preferred embodiments of the coupling member are defined in the dependent claims 8-17.
Thus, the invention provides for the locking of two or more containers, which are overlapping, adjacent and / or consecutive, from their corner pieces to one another simultaneously by two or more separate coupling devices to increase the total locking force.
The coupling method may be implemented by having a strap lock between the corner pieces of the two overlapping containers, in accordance with the prevailing practice, in addition to which a separate coupling member is mounted in the gripping holes on the vertical front surfaces of the corner pieces.
Alternatively, the coupling method may be implemented with a strap lock between the corner pieces of two overlapping containers, in accordance with the prevailing practice, and in addition a separate coupling member is mounted in the gripping holes on the side faces of the corner pieces.
20175943 prh 25 -10- 2017
Alternatively, the coupling method may be implemented with a strap lock between the corner pieces of the two overlapping containers, in accordance with the prevailing practice, and with separate coupling members 5 mounted in the grip holes on the front and side surfaces of the corner pieces.
It is also possible to connect two adjacent and overlapping containers (four corner pieces) with container locks between the corner pieces of the overlapping containers and, in addition, a separate coupling member, which engages the gripping holes on the vertical surfaces of all four corner pieces.
A prerequisite for the operation of the method is that the clearance between the strap lock and the support surfaces of the container 15 is substantially equal to the clearance between the coupling member and the support surfaces of the container, taking into account the structural elasticities and deformations of these components. The dimensioning of the coupling member is thus determined by the dimensions of the strap lock and the corner pieces of the 20 containers. The lifting force from the upper container to the lower container is then distributed as evenly as possible between the container lock and the coupling member.
The invention thus also relates to a coupling member which is fastened between the corner pieces of overlapping, adjacent and / or consecutive containers so that the link member carries a load, typically tensile, between the corner pieces, together with another locking member coupled between the corner pieces.
Alternatively, the invention relates to a coupling member which is secured between overlapping corner pieces such that the engagement member carries a load, typically tensile stress, between the corner pieces, together with a strap lock between the corner pieces.
Advantages of the invention are that it enables larger container loads to be carried on the ship's deck, whereby
20175943 prh 25 -10- 2017 cargo capacity and efficiency can be improved. The invention can be used with existing containers and container locks. The coupling member according to the invention is simple in structure and reliable.
The invention will now be explained in detail by means of preferred embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows the corner pieces of two overlapping containers which are locked together in a conventional manner with a strap lock.
Fig. 2 shows the same as Fig. 1, but now the angle 15 pieces are also locked to one another by the engaging means according to the invention, through the gripping holes in the front surfaces of the angular pieces.
Fig. 3 shows the same as Fig. 1, but now the angle pieces 20 are also locked together by the engaging holes in the side surfaces of the angular pieces by means of the coupling member according to the invention.
Figure 4 shows an embodiment in which the coupling members 25 are mounted in the grip holes in both the front and side surfaces.
Figure 5 shows, in cross-section and at rest, two overlapping corner pieces locked by a conventional container lock and a coupling member according to the invention.
Figure 6 shows the same as Figure 5 but under tensile loading.
Figure 1 thus shows the corner pieces of two overlapping containers. The upper corner piece 1 belongs to the upper container and the lower one
20175943 prh 25 -10- 2017 Corner piece for 2 lower containers. The actual containers are not shown in these drawings, but as is well known, the containers have a corner piece at each corner which allows the containers to be locked together by using a strap lock 3. The stroke lock is operated by operation cable 4 in a manner known per se. The container lock 3 thus locks the overlapping corner pieces 1, 2 of the containers together.
In addition, there are so-called "elbows" on the sides of the corner pieces. gripping holes 5, 5 '; 6, 6 '. The gripping holes denoted by the reference numeral 5, 5 'are located at the ends of the container 10 in the so-called. on the front surfaces and the gripping holes designated 6, 6 'are located on the long sides of the container in the so-called. the side surfaces.
In Fig. 2, the corner pieces 1, 2 are locked in addition to the conventional strap lock 3 by a coupling member 7 according to the invention. The coupling member 15 is mounted between the gripping hole 5 'on the front surface of the upper corner piece 1 and the gripping hole 5'.
Also in Fig. 3, the corner pieces 1, 2 are locked in addition to the ordinary container 20 kon 3 by a coupling member 7 according to the invention. The coupling member is in this case mounted between the gripping hole 6 on the lateral surface of the upper corner piece
Fig. 4, in turn, shows a combination of the solutions of Figs. 2 and 3, i.e. there are two coupling members 7, one between the front surface gripping holes 5, 5 'and one between the side surface gripping holes 6, 6'.
Fig. 5 shows a cross-section in which the upper container lower corner angle corner piece 1 rests in a resting position on the container lock body 8, which in turn rests on the lower container upper corner corner piece 2 The coupling member 7 is mounted in the engaging holes 6, 6 '. The coupling member 7 rests on the inner surface 11 of the upper corner piece 1.
In sleep mode there is a clearance between the upper locking catch 9 of the strap lock and the inner surface 11 of the upper corner piece Drive the container6 accordingly
20175943 prh 25 -10- 2017 There is a clearance B between the lower locking catch 10 of the lock and the inner surface 12 of the lower corner piece 2. These clearances allow locking and unlocking of the straddle lock in the port. Further, in the dormant state, there is a clearance C between the lower part of the coupling member 7 and the inner surface 12 of the lower corner piece 5 2 so that the clearance C is equal to the clearance A and B combined.
Figure 6 shows the arrangement of Figure 5 tensile load state in which the tension thus relates to the arrow A direction. For example, when a ship is tilted sufficiently at sea and the other edge of the upper container begins to rise upwards (the container stack begins to fall), the design of the towing shell 10 may occur. In this case, the upper corner piece 1 raises the strap lock 3 and the coupling member 7 upwards until they collide with the inner surface 12 of the lower corner piece 2. In this case, the clearances A, B and C shown in section 5 of Figure 15 no longer exist. Thus, the coupling member 7 is secured between the corner pieces 1, 2 so that it carries a load, such as tensile stress, between the corner pieces, together with the container lock 3 20 connected between the corner pieces 1, 2. Since both the strap lock 3 and the coupling member 7 carry the load simultaneously, it is possible to increase the height and / or weight of the container stack as compared to the conventional arrangement where the strap lock is used alone.
The foregoing are exemplary embodiments in which the coupling member 7 is mounted on the front face or side face of the corner pieces 1, 2, or both. Another option is to connect two adjacent and overlapping containers so that there are four pieces of corner pieces in the same group, with a strap lock between the corner pieces of the overlapping containers 30, in accordance with current practice, and a separate coupling member for each of the four to the gripping holes on the vertical surfaces of the elbow.
The coupling member 7 according to the invention can thus be mounted in the corner pieces of overlapping, adjacent and / or successive containers.
20175943 prh 25 -10- 2017 den. The coupling member may engage the gripping holes 5, 5 'of the container corner; 6, 6 'by means of pivotable locking elements or fixed locking claws (not shown in the drawings). Fixing can also be done with magnets.
Further, it is possible to provide the coupling member 7 with a support arm (not shown in the drawings) for ease of handling. At one end, the support arm may be attached directly or indirectly to the ship's hull structures or to the bridging bridge. The coupling member provided with a support arm can transmit 10 forces between the container and the ship's hull structures or the bridge.
The coupling member 7 is a substantially U-shaped portion, the free ends of which are secured to the gripping holes 5, 5 'of the container corner pieces; 6, 6 '.
It will be apparent to one skilled in the art that the invention is not limited to the above embodiments, but may vary within the scope of the appended claims. The need for the use of the coupling member 7 at different points in the container stack is determined e.g. based on the height of the stack and the weight of the containers. Instead, the coupling member may be made of blade 20 from a more flexible material, which must be taken into account when dimensioning the clearances A, B and C. Further, the coupling member may include a clearance adjustment feature implemented, for example, by a screw-like structure.
If necessary, the symbols which may be presented in the specification together with other characteristics may also be used separately.
